Getting
the Job:
The process of identifying a career path and then finding a job within that field
takes time. You will be more successful in the process if you keep in mind the
following suggestions:
1. Don't limit
your search only to advertised positions. Researching those organizations
in which you have an interest, along with networking, can help
you identify potential openings. Demonstrate you have an interest
in them, and follow up periodically to see if any positions have
come open. Conduct informational interviews with organizations
in which you are interested.

2.
Obtain information from the International Center on policies
for employment in the U.S. Your potential employer may inquire
about this information.
3.
Broaden your options. Your ultimate goal may be to
be working in a specific country, or in a specific
position, but sometimes it can take several steps
to reach this goal. For example, if your long-term
goal is to remain in the U.S. to work, you may need
to consider working overseas for a short time with
a company that would then transfer you to the U.S.
