Career Fairs are designed to help students network with employers, identify and secure full-time employment opportunities, and to assist with identifying possible internship opportunities.
Step 2: Plan Job Search Strategy
- Research companies, which you are interested, that will embrace your passions, and guide you towards your true path.
- Job shadow.
- Schedule an information interview.
Step 3: Create a Resume
- Utilize Career Services web site and CareerLink for resume samples , Career Services Employment Guide, and library resources for resume samples.
- After creating a resume, utilize Career Services resume review service
Step 4: Register in CareerLink
Step 5: Upload your Resume in CareerLink
- Complete your resume and upload your resume.
- To participate in On-Campus Recruiting, you must upload your resume and it must be approved in CareerLink.
Step 6: Recruiting Link - CareerLink Steps for participating in On-Campus Recruiting (OCR):
1. Login to CareerLink at
http://slu-csm.symplicity.com/students
2. Click on "On Campus Interviews"
3. A list of upcoming interview should appear.
4. Browse the list for an opportunity of your interest. Click on job title of your interest.
5. Closely check qualifications or requirements. (NOTE: If it indicates that you are not eligible to apply for a position based on your qualifications, but you believe you are eligible, please make sure your CareerLink profile is as up-to-date as possible.)
6. If you wish to apply, click on the Submit Resume for Interview link at the bottom of the screen.
7. Choose your appropriate resume (& cover letter if required). ( NOTE: You must have a resume uploaded and approved if you wish to participate in OCR).
8. Your application document(s) will be sent to the employer. You will be notified through email when the employer makes a decision on your application. Your "Applications" section will also show the status of the employer's decision.
Definitions of Employer Decisions:
Accepted: The employer has accepted your application for an interview.
Alternate: The employer has accepted you as an alternate candidate for an interview.
Undecided: The employer has yet to make a decision on your application.
Declined: The employer has declined your application for an interview.

9. If "Accepted" you will receive an e-mail with instructions on how to sign-up for an interview. If chosen as an "Alternate", you will receive instructions on how you may be able to sign-up for an interview. Career Services is not provided reasons by the employer why candidates may be "Declined".
10. If "Accepted", login to CareerLink and click on "Sign-up for an interview".
11. Select your interview time slot.
12. You will receive a confirmation e-mail of your interview date and time .
13. Dress professionally; arrive on time, and good luck!
Remember, proper preparation is the key to most successful interviews. If you'd like to schedule a mock interview to practice for OCR, call the Career Services office at 314.977.2327.
Step 7: Prepare for the Interview
- Practice proper interview etiquette
- Proper handshake, greeting and introduction, posture, and body language.
- Research company
- Visit the Employer Links page for a list of employer web sites to research.
- Company web sites can be found in the Employers link in CareerLink.
- Research Potential Interview Questions
- Utilize Career Services website, reference books, and Employment Guide for interviewing tips and questions.
- Practice Interviewing
- Role play with a friend or family member
- Schedule a mock interview with a Career Services Career Counselor or Peer Advisor.
Step 8: Interview Day
- All On-Campus Recruiting interviews are held in the Career Services office in the Busch Student Center, 20 North Grand Blvd., Suite 331, unless otherwise noted.
- Dress Appropriately
- When in doubt, it is better to be too conservative than to be too flashy/trendy.
- Plan to arrive a few minutes early
- Sign-in on the "Interview Sign-In" sheet and have a seat in the waiting area.
- If you are not able to attend your scheduled interview, please notify the Career Services office, and write a letter of apology to the recruiter.
- No-shows will not be allowed to participate in OCR until we receive a copy of the letter of apology.
Step 9: Follow-up with thank you letters
- Follow up with the recruiter by writing a letter expressing your appreciation for the interview
- Utilize sample thank you letters on the Career Services web site and the reference books in the Career Services Resource Library
Step 10: After the Interview
- If you receive a job offer:
- Notify Career Services when you accept a job.
- Complete the Graduate Survey (for Seniors).
- Update your registration in CareerLink.
